ABOUT THE PASTOR

Pastor Joyce E. Taipale comes to us with nearly 15 years experience as an ordained ELCA pastor. She received her Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio in 1990 and has served in four churches since ordination on October 27, 1990. Her first three churches were in North Carolina and Ohio and now at St. Martin in Upstate New York.

Prior to entering seminary Pastor Joyce was an academic librarian at a college in northeastern Ohio near the city where she grew up. Not wanting to lose her touch with library science Pastor Joyce has reorganized the library collections in the church. And since she specialized in working with historical documents collections she has done some work with church and synod archives.

Moving to the Rochester, New York area has been a blessing not only for the joys and challenges of serving as the pastor of St. Martin but also because she has family living in the area and gets to visit often with her nephews and their parents. She lives in the newly and brightly painted parsonage with her sister and three cats: Tiy, For Two, and With Crumpets (AKA Crummy).
